Autumn Term 2017
Please feel free this term to come into the class with your child in the morning and help them hang up their coats / bags etc. You can also help your child self-register by placing their name on the packed lunch or school dinner pictures on the white board.
As we are lucky enough to have plenty of cloakroom space, I have given each child two pegs. They will need their PE kits in school at all times and it would be very helpful if they also had a named bag with named Wellington Boots and a raincoat - as we endeavour to get outside and learn in all weather!
Our topic for this term is;’ All About Me and The Special People Who help Me’. We will be finding out all about our new friends and the people who help us in our families, school and the wider community. In line with the principles of the Foundation Stage Curriculum the children’s own areas of interests will be guiding our plans; however I have also booked a few surprise visitors for the children and have suggested they could park their emergency vehicles on the playground! Keep your fingers crossed! As part of this topic and our PSHE work in the next couple of weeks each child will need a shoe box for a ‘Me Box’ activity – details to follow – but please save a box if you have one.
The children’s new learning Journeys are now available in the book corner for you to share with your child on a Friday – but please do not take them home. Staff will be continuously updating them all year as well as a Class Learning Journey. Sharing your children’s learning achievements at home with us is a crucial part of their Foundation Stage Learning Journey and as such we would love to receive any photos / evidence you can give us for these books.
Any paintings / drawings etc. the children wish to take home will also be in your child’s individual box file – so everything is together. The children will not be having trays this year so jumpers etc. will go on their pegs. Please ensure that all your child’s belongings are labelled with their name as this helps to prevent things being lost. The children often get so busy that they completely forget where they’ve left items and what they had for lunch! We will be running ‘Show and Tell’ on a rota basis, so please don’t send in personal toys etc. unless it is their turn. This way we can make sure it is fair and keep precious items safe.
Billy Bear – Owls Class Bear – will also be visiting each child in turn for the weekend. He was donated by Billy Weaver a previous Owls Class pupil. Billy Bear will have his own diary and can take part in any clean, dry activity your child does - while they look after him. Billy has his own diary for families to write in and we would be most grateful if you could put something in from your weekend. This should be scribed by an adult! We do not expect Owls Class children to write all the text! An activity recorded can be something as simple as playing in the garden, Billy Bear doesn’t need to go on expensive visits!
This year the staff team in Owls Class are Mrs Bevan – teacher, Miss Wrightson TA and Mrs Lomax will be covering staff planning time etc. as far as possible. If you have any concerns or worries please feel free to come and speak to us. Working as a partnership is always best for the children.
If you have any questions about this terms activities or how you can further support your child in their studies please speak to either of us or email us via the school office office@mepalwitcham.cambs.sch.uk
We very much look forward to working with you.
Mrs Bevan and Miss Wrightson.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
