Summer Term 2017
Welcome back, I hope that you have all had a good Easter holiday. Once again we have another packed term to get through, although all the ‘time tabled bits’ will remain the same: PE remains on Wednesday and Thursday mornings with the Premier Sports Staff. Mr Moore and Mme Bending will also keep their regular slots around PE and ICT as they were last term. Letters to our Italian pen pals will continue.
Our topic for this term is a geography/science topic about sustainability. We will be finding out about global issues such as fair trade, global warming and renewable energy.
Our literacy text for the term is: ‘The Rabbits’ by Shaun Tan which is a modernist allegory of how the British colonised Australia and the ecological effects of the introduction of the rabbit across the continent. This is a picture book with amazing surrealist illustrations. We will be comparing it with another book by this author, ‘The Arrival’, which deals with emotive theme of refugees.
Our RE for the term will focus on Buddhism and we hope to invite a visiting speaker from the Buddhist Centre in Peterborough to talk to the children.
For year 6 children, SATs will commence 8th May and there will be lots of revision sessions in the coming days. The big question will be – as ever – which milk shake and cookies will the children chose? Year 6 children will spend some time in their new secondary schools on the designated transfer days – please see your chosen school’s timetable.
Herons class will take part in a music project this term in conjunction with Ely College and two other local primary schools. We will be looking at the Baroque music of Handel.
Finally ….. Herons have their turn to put on a production. We are considering Shakespeare – details to follow – however we will be using our art and DT sessions to create sets and props and in music lessons, we will be composing music for the production.
If you have any questions please come and ask.
Herons Class Team: Mrs Bevan, Ms Powell and Mrs Francis.
