Summer Term 2017
Welcome back after the Easter break. We hope you all had a fun and restful holiday. The children will be taught by Mrs Lomax and Mrs Parker this term with Mrs Osborne, Miss Wrightson and Miss Wells as the teaching assistants.
This term the topic is ‘Superheroes’ and the children started the term with a Superhero day. There will be a cross-curricular approach to our work so History, Geography, Music, Art, DT and much of the English will be taught through topic work.
In Maths we will be concentrating quite heavily on number. The Foundation Stage children will be working on recognising and ordering numbers to 20. They will continue to work on one more and one less as well as using objects to add and subtract single-digit numbers. The Year One children will study place value in 2-digit numbers as well as working on greater fluency in addition and subtraction with numbers to 20. We will introduce multiplication later on this term.
English will continue to include Guided Reading, Phonics and Writing. The children will be taught as a whole class and also in groups to ensure all their needs are met. Please keep working on the reading and writing of those ’Tricky Troll’ words we sent home- your input is really invaluable.
P.E. will take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays (3 sessions for Foundation Stage and 2 for Year Ones). Please ensure that your child has a P.E. kit in school.
Reading books will continue to be changed twice a week. This will usually be on a Tuesday and Friday, however your child needs to have their reading books with them every day for their Guided Reading lessons.
Please do feel free to ask any of the team if you have any questions or concerns.
